A wet Saturday

26th & 27th February 2010 Friday was spent just relaxing, watching TV, doing our washing in a proper front loading washing machine (which seem to be rather rare here) and checking out the shopping mall (very nice!). It was so nice to be in a home chilling rather than a hostel that we took full advantage and were very spoilt with superb barramundi for tea and quite a bit of wine. ...

Vineyards!

28th February 2010 More rugby this morning, it’s been so good to actually see some Six Nations and with Wales being beaten by France, I was at least happy to see that Ireland beat England too. Then we went out for a ride to the Scenic Rim area. This is a picturesque area of South East Queensland which encompasses some small country towns. It is also a region where there are a few wineries to be explored. ...

A patriotic day

8th November 2009 This morning at 6am I donned the welsh jersey for a trip to the pub to watch the All Blacks play Wales in Cardiff. It seemed really strange to be in a pub that early (and felt a little too early for a beer, so we settled for a cooked breakfast and coffee instead). I sang the anthem, albeit quietly since I was the only Welsh supporter in the place and got very excited when I saw the goat! The match was excellent, a really exciting game from start to finish with Wales really taking it to the Blacks and playing with immense passion right up until the final whistle. I think on reflection a beer would have helped calm me down instead of the 2 cups of strong coffee which only fuelled my nerves - I felt truly exhausted by the end. ...

Leaving on a jet plane...

September 3rd 2009 Well, that’s it, we’re all packed up and in a hotel in Heathrow ready for the off tomorrow morning. We’ve had a lovely couple of days with Dad, Fay and Sara (with a small amount of wine consumed!) and before that a nice couple of weeks with Gramps in Berkshire which included a day out with Nanny in Milton Keynes. We had a lovely BBQ with the usual suspects which was a really lovely evening filled with fun and laughter and loads of good wishes to take with us round the world. We also had a fantastic cream tea, hand cooked by Yvonne ‘Nigella’ Riches which will have to see us through for the next twelve months. ...

Old Friends and New Discoveries

16th August 2009 Dinasaurs in Wales…. Up early and packed up ready to make a move east to Thatcham for the next two weeks via a day out with some friends from Cyprus. We had arranged to meet Clive, Alexia, Samantha and Kirsten at Dan-yr-Ogof caves just on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park. We got to the caves for when they opened, which on reflection was a good move since it became rather busy later on. We firstly explored the main cave which was discovered by the Morgan brothers in the 1900s. The whole cave area was surrounded by model dinasaurs - life size in some cases, surrounded by ancient tree ferns and forests. ...
