18th & 19th January 2010
In preparation for our leaving the Gold Coast, yesterday was spent sorting out our clothes and relaxing in the pool. When we arrived in Australia it quickly became apparent that a lot of our clothes were too warm for the climate so we’ve been lucky enough to leave these at Aunty Mary’s while we continue on our travels round Oz.
Bidding a fond farewell to the pool was easy as the temparatures topped 38 degrees, so it was the coolest place to be (at least outside).
Today we took a train from Nerang to Brisbane airport, then flew to Sydney, flying over the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. We had also flown over them when we first arrived in Sydney, but this time we were prepared and the camera was out ready. Since we were coming from the north, we were also able to see Palm Beach (of Home and Away fame) and Manly from the air.

At Sydney, the connection to our flight to Hobart was seamless, allowing us time to grab some lunch before we got on the plane. Our bags also made the connecting flight and were there to greet us when we got to Hobart.
We picked up the hire car and headed out over the Tasman Bridge to our hostel which is on one of the hills overlooking Hobart. The decor is a little dated and a bit like something out of Faulty Towers but luckily that’s where the resemblance stops - no sign of Basil!
