One of my second cousins lives in Christchurch, so today we had arranged to meet up with her and her boyfriend Hayden for a spot of lunch.

We were experiencing another dry day, so after they picked us up, we headed out towards Banks’ Peninsula. There we stopped at a place called Sign of the Kiwi at Port Hills, from here we had a stunning views across Christchurch to the Southern Alps in the distance. We took a short path around the hillside and enjoyed the views over Lyttleton Harbour in the other direction.

After this short stop, we moved onto Governers Bay and a lovely little cafe where the main theme was chocolate - chocolate with everything, can’t argue with that. For lunch we moved onto Speight’s Alehouse, which is very much like the big pubs we get at home. A great pint accompanied by New Zealand’s national dish, the Blue and Gold or fish and chips to you and me. Lovely white fish encased in a light and crispy batter and actually wrapped in newspaper - fab!

We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch, chatting with Sarah and Hayden and finding out about their lives in Christchurch. The rest of the afternoon was spent reading and resting our eyes (after such a big lunch and a beer!).
