16th August 2009 Dinasaurs in Wales….

Up early and packed up ready to make a move east to Thatcham for the next two weeks via a day out with some friends from Cyprus. We had arranged to meet Clive, Alexia, Samantha and Kirsten at Dan-yr-Ogof caves just on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park.

We got to the caves for when they opened, which on reflection was a good move since it became rather busy later on. We firstly explored the main cave which was discovered by the Morgan brothers in the 1900s. The whole cave area was surrounded by model dinasaurs - life size in some cases, surrounded by ancient tree ferns and forests.

Then we moved onto the aptly named cathedral cave- a vast cavern with waterfalls and rock formations.

After a quick hot chocolate and a visit to the museum we visited a lovely pub in Penycae called “The Ancient Briton” where we had a slap up Sunday lunch followed by desserts all round.

We then moved onto the Shire Horse Centre where we saw sheep, pigs, llamas, emus, donkies and of course the massive 19 hand plus shire horses, gentle giants (but I was happy they were behind a fence!).

A lovely day out with the added bonus of catching up with some wonderful friends.
